Portraits of the Salesian Family – Yana Hallal

At the beginning of June 2017, we offered you to meet the young people of the Salesian Family, of which you are a part of (click here to see the article in French). For this second edition, we are presenting you Yana Hallal, member of the Salesian Family in Syria, who participated at Confronto 2017 in Colle Don Bosco, Italy. (French version here)

Portrait de la Famille Salésienne 2, Yana Halla. Animatrice à l'oratoire de Kafroun

Yana, how old are you?

I’m 20 years old.

Where are you coming from?

I come from Kafroun, a village in Syria.

How did you meet the Salesian Family?

My cousin is a Salesian Father. When I was six years old, he was playing with me and did magic. He started talking to me about Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Don Bosco. He took me to the Salesian house in my town and that’s how I met the Salesian Family.

What gave you the desire to be a part of the Salesian Family?

From the first day on, I felt the love and the joy and I could not resist to the family spirit that I felt there! Until now, each time I go there, I always feel this same spirit. That’s why I am now a volunteer and an animator there.

What do you do during your free time? What are your involvements?

I work in the Salesian house and I am also a volunteer in a reading and writing community. On mornings, I work in a pharmacy (Editor’s note: Yana is a pharmacy student).

Why do you like to give your time in the oratory?

I work at the oratory because it was the place where I grow up. It was the place where I felt loved and where I felt that God was with me in every step. I think it is the message of my life. God wants me to work with young people to help them as I was helped before. The Family Spirit takes me back each time to the young people of the oratory. 🙂

Thank you so much Yana for this beautiful testimony!
